Biography
Marilyn was born in Miami, Florida, the second of three daughters. Her father was an attorney, practicing law in Florida for over forty years. She attended American University in Washington, D.C. where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Government Contracts and Grant Acquisition with a minor in Accounting in 1983 while working fulltime. She remained in the D.C. Metro area as a senior contract specialist, putting her degree to use and gaining valuable experience in the complex world of government and commercial contracts. She then enrolled in law school at the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia. She graduated “with distinction”, first in my class and summa cum laude in 1990.
Mother, Sister & World Traveler
First and foremost, Marilyn is a mom. She has two daughters and a stepson. Stephanie, her older daughter, recently completed medical school and is now a radiologist. She is engaged to Jack Carmichael, an aspiring and talented chef. Her younger daughter, Danielle, while finishing her degree in education at Shenandoah University, is a tireless human rights advocate who volunteers for children in some of the most impoverished countries in the world. She plans to teach elementary school and continue running the family’s non-profit organization, Kare4Kids.
Meet the Strykers. Marilyn’s stepson, Ryan, who works in banking and is a local real estate agent and wife Brittney, who is Vice President of H.R. for a Fortune 500 company. First they had two children then suddenly they had five beautiful kids! Ryan’s sister died suddenly, leaving behind three children of her own. Rather than see them enter the system, Ryan and Brittney stepped up and recently finalized their adoption of all three. Marilyn is incredibly proud of Ryan, now himself the proud father of five. Congratulations Stryker family!
Marilyn is also an avid photographer and scrapbooker. She is the founder of the Kare4Kidz foundation- https://thekareforkidzfoundation.com/index.html, a small, family run 501(c)(3) charity which helps underprivileged children in our community with holiday gifts, school supplies, warm coats and boots and other necessities. Kare4Kidz believes that providing food, clothing, and toys for children will help them through a difficult time. If they aren’t hungry or cold, they will be better able to concentrate in school, and if they have toys to play with, they will laugh more at home. Marilyn believes when people are suffering through a dark time in their life, the spirit that comes from charitable assistance will lift them up to face the world, and they will pass the good deed forward when they can. Kare4Kidz applications are available to all those eligible no matter legal resident status-no proof of citizenship is required. *Las solicitudes están disponibles para todos aquellos elegibles sin importar el estado legal de residencia. No se requiere prueba de ciudadanía.* Applications can be downloaded from the website or picked up at the Solomon Law Group office.
Marilyn is also a member of the Mason’s Order of the Eastern Stars, McKinley Chapter Number 19. She also loves to travel to exciting and exotic international destinations. She cuddled with tigers in Thailand, swam with sharks in Hawaii and explored ancient ruins and castles all over Europe.
